July has been a timeout month for me in poker. After getting the huge emotional swings in June due to my major tilt playing blackjack and unexpectedly doing well in the blogger's tournament, I havent been able to get back to the regular freeroll grind that I was on for the first half of the year.
Highlight of the month were the freeroll MTT wins I had at the beginning and end of the month. I also went deep in two mega freerolls and that was about it.
The big event was playing in my biggest buy-in MTT ever, the $350+20 event at Pokerstars trying to win a seat to the WSOP ME. I had won the ticket to play from the above mentioned blogger's event. I approached it all wrong and donked out in just over two hours. The winners (all 243 of them) took over 8(!) hours to reach the bubble. It was a great experience and both tournys at Pokerstars showed how much more I need to learn about the level of play to expect at different buy-in MTTs.
I didn't play poker much this month and when I did I didn't blog much about it either. But I did do alot of thinking about it. The experiences of nearly winning a major event and tilting off over $700 in under an hour has expanded my realm of poker possibilities. Before these past two month's, the range was winning a freeroll and losing 10% of my bankroll.
This thinking has been good in putting things into perspective for me to:
- set my goals higher in poker
- to control my natural exuberance into controlled aggression instead of becoming an ATM
Net July gain: $178.13
